Welcome Shooter, to the June edition of The Liberty Pole, Project Appleseed’s monthly newsletter.
We hope everyone enjoyed the Memorial Day weekend as the unofficial kick-off to summer. As we gathered with family, friends and neighbors debating potato salad or pasta salad and grilling the favorites, we also remembered those that have died in US Military Service. For June, remember to fly your United States flag on Flag Day.
We still have two Tippmann Appleseed Edition M4-22 Elite rifles donated by Waco Tactical Fitness available in our 250 for America's 250 Marksmanship Challenge. Get to an Appleseed event and go for that perfect 250 !!!
Last month, we featured an article about the proper installation of the USGI Web Sling. This month we follow it up with bonus article on the History of the USGI Web Sling. Learn about The Battle of Sullivan's Island in our History article by AH1Tom. Check out the Appleseed store.
Appleseed has applied for a grant as part of Mantis' #TRAINtheWORLD. Their goal is to record 10 million dry fire and live fire shots in the month of September 2026, funding up to $100,000 in grants. Read more below.
As always, thank you for reading.

Event Highlights
Concord, CA &
Orlando, FL |
This month one event we highlight was a traditional 25M Rifle Clinic held in Concord, CA. Shoot Boss, 3Huzzahs offered sage advice to "write it down" and opened his recap of the event very eloquently ...
"Saturday morning saw the sun rising over the grassy hills of the United Sportsman's Inc. shooting range in Concord, California and warming the air cooled by the night's darkness. The partnership between Project Appleseed and the USI management continues to grow stronger ..."
|
We're also highlighting a Ladyseed event held in Orlando, Florida. Ladyseed is a fun and empowering 25M rifle clinic designed specifically for women and girls of all experience levels. It offers the opportunity for women to shoot, share, and get to know each other in a supportive learning environment. Shoot Boss, JustKim, thanked Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club and talked about braving the heat ...
"Although the weather was HOT, these ladies showed up with positive, teachable attitudes. They listened carefully to the instruction and worked hard to apply what they learned. We saw a tremendous amount of progress throughout the weekend."
|
We've had one verified perfect 250 score winner of one of the three rifles available in the "250 for America's 250 Marksmanship Challenge." The next two verified natural 250 scores on the Appleseed Qualification Test (AQT) in 2026 will each win a Tippmann Appleseed Edition M4-22 Elite rifle generously donated by Waco Tactical Fitness.
- No .30 caliber rule
- No artificial support except USGI sling
- Takes place at a scheduled Appleseed 25M Rifle Clinic

June's History: The Battle
of Sullivan's Island |
In May, we featured a History article on the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War, The Battle off Fairhaven. For June, AH1Tom writes about The Battle of Sullivan Island, the British navy's attempt to bombard a newly constructed fort near Charleston, SC.
"In early 1776, British leaders hoped the southern colonies would provide a strong base of Loyalist support. After military operations around Boston, General Henry Clinton and Commodore Sir Peter Parker led an expedition southward. Their original plans were disrupted, and they eventually turned their attention to Charleston, one of the most valuable ports in the colonies. To protect the city, American defenders had begun ..."

Bonus: History of the
USGI Web Sling |
Last month, Maximum Ordinate shared an article How to Install the USGI Web Sling. This in-depth article provided step by step instructions to ensure you get the most out of this invaluable shooting aid. |
This month, he follows it up with an informative article on the History of the USGI Web Sling.
"The adoption of the USGI (United States Government Issue) cotton web sling marked a significant improvement in rifle slings for the U.S. Army. Instead of expensive, high-maintenance leather, Soldiers received durable, mass-produced textiles..." |

What our students
say about us ... |
Sebastian O. wrote ...
Thank you so much for running the Appleseed for Westchester NY Scouts this past weekend! They have learned a lot in these two days and some were already talking about getting a 22LR rifle and continuing. I think my son will want to do another Appleseed to learn more and earn a rifleman’s patch so I hope to see you in the future. Our troop will probably organize a history tour trip to Boston, Lexington and Concord next year. Thanks again and keep spreading the knowledge of marksmanship and history.

I found the content and teaching style very effective, I was rarely in a position where I didn't know what I was supposed to do or achieve. The improvements I got from the event were impressive to me since I started with little rifle experience or marksmanship ability. With instruction I went from 'mostly on paper' to being able to get shots on the small AQT target. I've felt it work and I know how to practice and improve for myself. |

Originally called Decoration Day, the first national observance of what would be called Memorial Day occurred on May 30, 1868. Official recognition as a holiday spread across the states, beginning with New York in 1873. It had been adopted by every state by 1890. In 1968 Congress changed the date to the last Monday in May, and standardized the name Memorial Day in 1971. We remember and honor those who died in service with the US Military. |

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation that designated June 14 as Flag Day. On August 3, 1949, National Flag Day was officially established by an Act of Congress. The date was chosen to observe the anniversary of the adoption on June 14, 1777, by the Continental Congress of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States of America. Proudly fly: "Old Glory", "The Stars and Stripes", "The Red, White, and Blue" on Flag Day !!! |

What is a Known
Distance Clinic? |
A Known Distance Clinic is the next level of Project Appleseed, applying all the fundamentals that are learned in our classic 25M Rifle Clinics. This fun and challenging class is for centerfire-only rifles. During this intermediate-level class, students focus on the skills required to effectively hit targets up to 400 yards and beyond. This class covers topics of the Three Challenges of a Rifleman:
- Target Detection
- Range Estimation
- Making the Shot
You will learn applied bullet trajectory, battlesight zero, and managing environmental conditions. You will also learn how to get the most out of your sighting system (MOA or mils), and much more.
