Dear Friends,
Happy summer! The start of June marks the end of the school year and the start of summer break. Even in parish life, we tend to follow this cadence, with fewer programs to accommodate the summer schedules of our parishioners. I know for me, it always feels like a much-needed time to breathe. Rest is good, holy, and necessary – even our Lord rested and commanded we do the same. It can be tempting, however, to take a break not just from the busy rhythm of the ministerial year, but from the regular practice of our faith as well. Discipleship, though, does not take a summer vacation.
On Friday, June 12 we will celebrate the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, one day after the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops formally consecrates our nation to His Sacred Heart. The image of the Sacred Heart is a great source of inspiration as we head into summer. Through its wounds and through its exhaustion, it burns with flames of zeal—the zealous love of God, His zealous love for all souls. Nothing can extinguish the flames of His love for us and for all.
As you head into summer, how can you rest in such a way that it feeds the flames of His love burning in your own heart? How can you draw closer to His Sacred Heart so that His zeal becomes your own?

August 20-22, 2026 | Mary Mother of the Church Pastoral Center
The Catechetical Conference is an opportunity to step away from the demands of ministry, be renewed in Christ, and connect with fellow catechetical leaders from across the Archdiocese.
Thursday and Friday are designed especially for Parish Catechetical Leaders and includes a choice of three formation tracks: a Welcome Day for New Leaders, Working Genius, or Forming Disciples with the 10:10 Challenge. Participants will also enjoy time for prayer, networking, and practical ministry formation.
Friday includes Mass with Archbishop Grob, a keynote by Kately Javier, workshops, mini-sessions, and exhibitors. Topics include catechesis in the digital age, active learning for sacrament preparation, prayer for busy leaders, family catechesis, and healthy conflict resolution.
Saturday is designed for catechists, volunteer core team members, and parish volunteers serving adults, youth, and children. The day includes keynote speakers, workshop tracks in English and Spanish, and Mass with Bishop Schuerman.
Whether you are new to ministry or have years of experience, the conference offers practical tools, fresh ideas, and encouragement for the year ahead.

Sunday September 20th, 2026
Catechetical Sunday, celebrated on September 20, 2026, is an opportunity to recognize and thank catechists for their ministry of sharing the faith and forming disciples. This year's theme, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me… to bring good news to the poor” (Lk 4:18), reminds us of Christ’s mission and our call to proclaim the Gospel through word and witness.
As you begin planning for the fall, consider how your parish will recognize and commission catechists. The USCCB offers certificates, prayer cards, posters, and other resources to support your celebration. |

We invite you to use this when looking for gifts to family, friends or your parish. Share it with your faith community. Council groups may want to consider donating books to their parish if they have a lending library. Several of these organizations also publish catalogs you can order from. Some authors are known for the Catholic books they publish and can be found on more than one website. If a book is sold out on one site, it may be available on another.
