Celebrate Waste Collector Appreciation Week
June 10, 2026

June 14 to 20 is Waste Collector Appreciation Week! The City appreciates the important role that Waste Services workers play in keeping Edmonton safe and clean by collecting residents’ waste, handling hazardous and bulky items at Eco Stations and processing waste at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre.

Show your gratitude by leaving a note on your carts or bins, writing a message on your driveway or finding other creative ways to thank Waste Services staff on your next collection day. Residents can also post a message on social media and tag @CityOfEdmonton so our workers can see your support. If you’re visiting an Eco Station or the Edmonton Waste Management Centre, be sure to thank workers for all they do to support our communities.

While these are all great ways to express your gratitude, the most meaningful ways to show your appreciation year-round are through simple actions that help keep our staff safe:
  • Waste collectors work both inside and outside of their trucks. If a truck is stopped, always assume a collector is working nearby. Go slow and leave space when driving by a stopped collection vehicle.
  • Hazardous waste and e-waste like batteries, vape pens and old electronics cause explosions and fires when disposed of improperly, putting our waste collectors and processors at serious risk. Take these items to an Eco Station for safe, free disposal that will keep workers safe.
  • Download the WasteWise app or visit edmonton.ca/WasteWise for more information on waste sorting and disposal.
