Park Mains High Update

Monday 29 June 2026
Dear Parent or Carer,

As we approach the end of another school year, I wanted to provide you with an update on the ongoing redesign and expansion of Park Mains High School.

This update is being shared with all current parents and carers at Park Mains High School, as well as families at the school’s associated primary schools, Bargarran, Barsail, Bishopton, Dargavel, Inchinnan, Langbank and Rashielea.

As many of you will know, the school is being redesigned and expanded to support an expected increase in pupil numbers in the years ahead, helping ensure high-quality learning environments for young people.

When complete, the redesigned school will increase capacity by around 400 pupils, bringing the overall school roll capacity to approximately 2,000 pupils.

The project will include:
  • A new sports annex next to the existing PE block, including two sports halls and changing facilities, alongside an upgraded fitness suite within the main school building.
  • A new technology annex next to the existing west wing of the school.
  • An increased dining capacity with additional internal spaces and new dining extension.
  • External works include new paving, canopies to seating areas, planting and a sensory garden, provide opportunity for outdoor learning with improved seating areas.
  • Reconfiguration of the existing building internal layout to group related subjects together and improve integrated learning environments.
  • An improved bus loop layout, drop-off and pick-up arrangements, additional parking and more electric vehicle charging points.
Project update
Since our previous update, work on the project has continued to progress.

An important phase of advance works took place between March and June to prepare the site for the main construction programme. This included preparing land for the new annexes, carrying out groundworks, relocating some existing services and utilities, installing drainage infrastructure, and setting up the construction site accommodation.

The site has also been prepared to ensure construction can take place safely alongside the day-to-day operation of the school. This has included installing secure fencing, creating welfare facilities for construction staff and putting measures in place to safely separate construction activity from pupils and staff.

Good progress has also been made on the expansion of the school car park. This work has now reached an initial stage, and the area will be used by contractors site use for the duration of construction works. The car park will be fully completed as part of the main works, which are scheduled to conclude end of summer 2027.

The main construction phase began in June, with piling for the annexes now complete. Work is now underway on the foundations in preparation for the superstructure. A carefully planned approach is being used to minimise disruption to the school while these works take place.

Earlier this month, pupils welcomed Councillor Emma Rodden, Convener of Renfrewshire Council's Education and Children's Services Policy Board, and Janie O'Neill, Director of Children's Services, to the site to see the progress being made alongside Head Teacher Alan Dick and representatives from Morrison Construction.

Over the summer, much of the focus will move to work inside the existing school building. This will include the first phases of alterations to create new teaching spaces and improve the internal layout of the school. Work will also begin on the dining area extension and the new dining canopy.
Dining extension
Another major milestone over the summer will be the extension of the school bus loop, which is due to be completed before pupils return for the new school year in August.

We know many parents will want reassurance around how the project will be delivered while the school remains operational. Careful planning is taking place to minimise disruption to learning, with works phased wherever possible and major internal works scheduled during school holiday periods.

This approach proved particularly important during this year's examination period, when close coordination between the school, Renfrewshire Council and Morrison Construction helped ensure exams could take place smoothly.

Regular coordination meetings continue to take place between the school, council services and the contractor to plan upcoming activities and help minimise disruption as the project progresses.

We continue to work closely with Mr Dick and his team at Park Mains High School, alongside Morrison Construction and the project design team, to carefully plan the works and ensure the extended school continues to provide an excellent environment for pupils and staff.

What happens next?
We will continue to provide updates as the project progresses and keep families informed of key milestones.

Our last set of projections continue to show the extended school will have capacity for expected future demand within the catchment, and we will continue to monitor those numbers carefully each year.

The Park Mains Liaison Group, which includes representatives from the parent councils of Park Mains High School and associated primary schools, also continues to meet regularly to discuss progress and share feedback.

We appreciate the continued support and patience of families as this exciting project moves forward.

The redesigned school will provide modern, high-quality facilities for pupils, staff and the wider community, and we know many young people will benefit from the opportunities it will bring in the years ahead.

If you have any questions, you can contact the project team by emailing

Thank you for your continued support and I wish you and your family a very enjoyable summer break.

Kind regards,
