PGSCC Update

June 2026
Dear parent or carer,

With just weeks to go until pupils and staff move into the new Paisley Grammar School Community Campus, I wanted to provide a final update as summer holidays get under way.

This update is being shared with all parents and carers at Paisley Grammar School and the five associated primary schools; Gallowhill, Mossvale, Ralston, Todholm and Williamsburgh.
Construction update
I am delighted to say that construction of the new Paisley Grammar School Community Campus has now been completed on time and on budget.

Over recent months, contractors have been focused on fitting out the building, installing furniture and equipment, and carrying out final checks and testing to ensure everything is ready for the new school year.

The result is a fantastic new campus that will provide modern, high-quality facilities for pupils, staff and the wider community for many years to come.

The school includes modern teaching and learning spaces, specialist science and STEM facilities, dedicated drama and performance areas, high-quality sports facilities and flexible social spaces designed around the needs of today's learners.

We know many families are keen to see inside the new building, and we are pleased to share some recent images below.

Moving to the new campus
The move into the new school remains on track.

Staff will begin preparing the building over the summer, with pupils returning for the start of the new school year on Thursday 20 August 2026.

Parents should note pupils all other Renfrewshire schools start back on Tuesday 18 August. As we let you know earlier this year, it was agreed Paisley Grammar School would have two exceptional closure days to give staff extra time to make sure the new building is ready to open to pupils.
Saying goodbye to the old school
Over the past few weeks, hundreds of former pupils, staff and families have returned to Paisley Grammar School to take part in a series of farewell events before the building closes.

The response was overwhelming, with all events fully booked and almost 2,000 people attending across the three dates.

I would like to thank everyone who came along to share memories, stories and photographs. It was clear just how much the school has meant to generations of people across Paisley and beyond.

You can read more from some of the people who attended below.

Pupils also celebrated the closure of Paisley Grammar School on Friday. You can read about that event in the link below.

Roads, transport and access
Alongside the new school, significant investment has continued in the surrounding transport network.

The new east–west road and junction with Renfrew Road, which will provide access to the school, is nearing completion and will be open when the school opens in August.

This forms part of the wider AMIDS South project being delivered by the council, which is improving connections between Paisley town centre, Glasgow Airport and the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS).

Work is also progressing on the wider improvements around the school, including:
  • The new Gallowhill Link providing safe access under Renfrew Road and connecting Gallowhill Road with the Paisley-to-Renfrew walking and cycling route is complete.
  • Improved walking and cycling infrastructure around the campus.
  • Road safety improvements along Renfrew Road, including relocating signs and bus shelters and removing parking spaces to widen pavements, resurfacing roads and pavements, plus improved crossings and pedestrian barriers.

School transport
As previously communicated, free home-to-school transport will be available for eligible pupils who live more than two miles from the new school.

Families who qualify have already been contacted regarding eligibility arrangements – further detail on pick-up arrangements will follow over the summer from SPT.

Further information can be found on the council's home-to-school transport webpage.

We know that travel arrangements are an important consideration for many families and a further update specifically focused on travel, transport and access arrangements will be issued in the coming weeks.
Looking ahead
The opening of the new Paisley Grammar School Community Campus marks an important milestone for one of Scotland's oldest schools.

While we know there will be sadness at leaving the current building behind, there is also great excitement about the opportunities the new campus will bring for current and future generations of young people.

Thank you for your continued support throughout this journey.

We look forward to welcoming pupils and staff into their new school in August.

Kind regards,
Gerard McLaughlin
