Securing Justice for Murder Victims Joseph Morros was convicted on all counts at trial for the murder of 30-year-old Tykeem Berry at an Inwood bodega. “Instead of walking away, Joseph Morros robbed Mr. Berry’s family of a beloved father, son and friend. What is particularly heartbreaking about this incident is Mr. Berry’s young daughter witnessed his murder – a horrific trauma no child should ever have to endure. I thank the jury for their careful and thoughtful consideration of the evidence that led to this verdict,” said D.A. Bragg.
We announced the sentencing of Michel Patrick DeSalles to 20 years-to-life in state prison for choking his employer to death with zip ties. “His actions have caused Mr. Gholian’s family and loved ones lasting emotional damage, and I join with them in mourning their loss. It is never too late to pursue accountability for murder victims, and I thank our team for bringing this matter to its conclusion,” said D.A. Bragg.

Dozens of staff members volunteered across Manhattan to share vital resources and facilitate a welcoming family-friendly event!

Standing Against Hate We announced the indictment of Kevin Maxwell for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old boy in an anti-gay attack at Baruch Playground on the Lower East Side. “Every child deserves to feel safe in our parks and other shared spaces, and we are dedicated to protecting New Yorkers by using every tool available to hold those who commit bias-motivated attacks accountable,” said D.A. Bragg.
Cracking Down on Crypto Fraud “For the sake of victims of crypto theft, it is important to have the timely and forthcoming cooperation from these massive, and highly profitable, cryptocurrency corporations,” said D.A. Demanding Accountability for Sexual Violence We announced the sentencing of Donovan Murphy to a total of 34 years in state prison for entering a woman’s Upper East Side apartment and raping her when she awoke to find him in her bed. “Although this case has reached its conclusion, the survivor’s recovery continues, and I hope she is able to heal from the lasting physical and emotional impact of this crime. We will continue to support survivors of rape and sexual violence and vigorously prosecute these matters,” said D.A. Bragg.

Connecting With Our Community We hosted a resource fair for homeowners with New York State Attorney General James, Senator Cordell Cleare, Councilmember Yusef Salaam, and Assemblymember Jordan Wright to share information about deed theft and foreclosure prevention!
Members of our office joined AABANY and Fordham Law School’s Center on Asian Americans and the Law for a trial reenactment highlighting the key events in the trial against two men responsible for the murder of Vincent Chin, a 27-year-old Chinese American.
Along with the Lower East Side Collaborative we hosted the first Lower East Side Opportunity Fair, bringing together community-based organizations and city agencies to provide resources and support for young New Yorkers.
