Capital Line South LRT Extension: 12 Avenue reopens west of 111 Street |

The City of Edmonton and Ledcor, the design-build contractor for the Capital Line South LRT Extension project, are pleased to announce the successful reopening of the intersection at 12 Avenue west of 111 Street, marking a major construction milestone this summer. Ledcor completed drainage, utility, road and track work during the 10-week intersection closure despite challenging conditions. |

With 12 Avenue west reopening, Ledcor is preparing for similar work on 9 Avenue west of 111 Street, with a closure expected to begin in mid-August and last approximately 10 weeks. Traffic will be detoured to 12 Avenue.
“The recent 12 Avenue closure allowed the contractor to complete the necessary underground utility and drainage work, along with road and track work. Over the coming months, the public will continue to see more LRT infrastructure installed along the corridor, such as trackways at 9 Avenue,” said Eva Cheung, General Supervisor, LRT Expansion and Renewal. “We recognize how disruptive this closure was, particularly for nearby residents, and we’re deeply appreciative of everyone’s ongoing patience and understanding.”
"Reconstruction of 12 Avenue west required careful planning, coordination and an incredible effort from our crews, particularly as we faced record-breaking torrential rainfall during construction," said Brad Mytko, SVP Infrastructure, Ledcor Group. "Despite the challenging conditions, our team remained focused on safety, quality and innovation to keep the work moving, allowing us to deliver this important connection back to the community on time.”
Once operational, the Capital Line South LRT Extension will benefit communities in southwest and south Edmonton by providing additional accessible travel options for Edmontonians.
