Celebrate the 150th anniversary of Treaty No. 6 Recognition Day
August 13, 2026 

Media are invited to join the Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 First Nations and the City of Edmonton to mark 150 years of Treaty No. 6. To commemorate Treaty No. 6 Recognition Day, we will host a ceremony, cultural programming and a public celebration at City Hall and Churchill Square.

Speakers will include:
  • Joey Pete, Chief of Sunchild First Nation and Grand Chief of Confederacy of Treaty No.6 First Nations
  • Mayor Andrew Knack
  • Eleanor Olszewski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience and Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada
  • Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
City Hall program

Time: 8:45 a.m. Grand Entry into City Room; 9 a.m. speaking program begins; 11 a.m. media availability

Commemoration celebration
This event includes singing, drumming and cultural performances.
