Dear Valued Customer,

In early August 2026, Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD), your drinking water provider, began a water system improvement project on SW Suncrest Lane and SW Inglis Drive to improve the long-term reliability of your neighborhood's water service.

As part of this project, your home is one of five that will move from a lower water pressure zone to a higher water pressure zone. Changing pressure zone boundaries is a normal part of operating and improving a water distribution system.

A water pressure zone is an area of the water system where water is delivered at a similar pressure. Different areas have different pressure zones based on elevation and how the water system is designed. TVWD uses pressure zones to manage water pressure and make sure customers receive reliable water service.

Because the new pressure zone operates at a higher pressure, a certified plumber at TVWD will install a new 1-inch pressure reducing valve (PRV) behind your water meter at no cost to you. The PRV will keep the water pressure entering your home's plumbing at a safe level.

This week, TVWD plans to excavate (dig) around your water meter and place plywood over the excavation. Your new PRV is slated to be installed during the week of August 24, 2026. Installing the PRV will require your water service to be turned off for up to two hours.

Why is TVWD making this change?

Currently, an aging pressure-reducing valve (PRV) and underground vault near the intersection of SW Inglis Drive and SW Whispering Fir Drive separate your neighborhood into two different water pressure zones. The PRV reduces pressure before water enters your area.

One installed, the new water main will allow TVWD to remove the existing PRV and underground vault. As a result, your home and four neighboring homes will be served higher water pressure.

This change will simplify the water system, eliminate aging pressure-control equipment, reduce future maintenance, and improve reliability and reduce water age to improved freshness.

How will this affect your home?
After the water main project is complete in mid-September 2026, water pressure at your meter is expected to increase from approximately 35 to 50 pounds per square inch (PSI) to approximately 90 to 100 PSI.

How will TVWD manage the higher water pressure?
Because this pressure is higher than standard for residential plumbing, TVWD will install a new 1-inch pressure-reducing valve (PRV) behind your water meter at no cost to you. Your existing water meter will remain in its current location.

The PRV will reduce the pressure entering your home's plumbing to a safe level and help protect your plumbing, fixtures, and appliances. The new PRV is covered by a one-year warranty. After the warranty period, it will become part of your private plumbing system and your responsibility to maintain.

After the new PRV is installed and adjusted, you will likely notice little or no change in the water pressure inside your home.

When the project is complete, if you would like higher or lower water pressure inside your home, you can hire a licensed plumber to adjust the PRV.

How many homes are affected?
Five homes, including yours, will be connected to the higher-pressure zone. The affected homes are highlighted in yellow on the map below and include:
  • 9150 SW Whispering Fir Dr.
  • 9219 SW Whispering Fir Dr.
  • 9287 SW Whispering Fir Dr.
  • 9252 SW Whispering Fir Dr.
  • 9353 SW Whispering Fir Dr.
What is the timeline?
Week of August 17, 2026:
  • TVWD will excavate (dig) around your water meter and place plywood over the dug area.
Week of August 24, 2026:
  • TVWD will install your PRV behind your water meter then restore the area to its original condition.
