Stuff a Bus for Schools is back to help local students succeed
August 18, 2026

The City of Edmonton and Edmonton Transit Service are proud to once again work with United Way of the Alberta Capital Region and Staples to provide school supplies to students in need through Stuff a Bus for Schools.

This year, the program has expanded to include the neighbouring municipalities of Strathcona County, Spruce Grove and St. Albert. Events like this highlight how regional transit collaboration can raise awareness of our approach to transit while making a positive impact in our communities.

Building on the success of the annual Stuff a Bus food donation campaign, this initiative helps ensure students have the supplies they need to start the school year strong. Donations collected through Stuff a Bus for Schools will stay in each participating community to support local students.

There are several ways to donate:
  • Until Friday, August 28: Drop off new school supplies at donation boxes in City-run facilities in Edmonton, Sherwood Park and Spruce Grove.
  • Donate online through United Way’s All in for Youth website and select All in for Youth under the “Designate” fund section. A minimum donation of $20 is required to receive a tax receipt.
  • Purchase or donate school supplies at any participating Staples location.
On August 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., local transit buses will be parked at the following Staples locations to collect school supply donations.

  • Unity Square, 11812 104 Ave. NW
  • Strathcona, 6510 Gateway Blvd. NW

United Way volunteers will also be at all Edmonton stores on August 29 to accept debit, credit and cash donations.

Most-needed items:
  • Backpacks
  • Pencils, pens and erasers
  • Binders, dividers and paper
  • Notebooks and duotangs
  • Crayons and pencil crayons
  • Highlighters and markers
  • Scissors, glue sticks and rulers
With an estimated one in six Edmonton families experiencing poverty, the cost of school supplies can add to financial pressures at the start of the school year. Recognizing this financial burden prompted United Way, Staples and the City to take action.

With your support, we can help reduce barriers to education and ensure students across our municipalities have the supplies they need to build brighter futures.
