Paisley Grammar School Community Campus update

August 2026
Travel guide for the new school
New Paisley Grammar School Community Campus showing pupil entrance.
Dear parent or carer,

With the first day at Paisley Grammar School Community Campus almost here, we are sharing our travel guide again to make sure you have the information you need before the school welcomes pupils for the first time on Thursday.

The area around the new campus has also been transformed through the wider AMIDS South project, another major investment being delivered by Renfrewshire Council.

The first phase is now complete and includes the new junction with Renfrew Road and New Grammar Road, from which the school is accessed, along with a range of improvements to make travel to the school safer and easier. The temporary traffic management has now been removed, and the new junction, traffic lights and pedestrian crossings are now in use.

While some construction work will continue in the surrounding area as the wider AMIDS South project progresses, all key routes into the school are now open and ready to use from the first day of term.

To help everyone prepare for the first day, we have produced the guide below which explains the best way to travel to the new campus, whether your child is walking, cycling, travelling by bus or being dropped off by car. Please take a few minutes to read it before the new term begins.

I am sure you will agree the school itself is looking fantastic, and you can see a sneak preview inside, voiced by some of the pupils when they visited in June, through this YouTube link.

You may also have already seen the images of inside the new school which we published earlier this month on our Facebook page.

TRAVEL GUIDE FOR PAISLEY GRAMMAR SCHOOL COMMUNITY CAMPUS
Welcome
Opening the new school also means getting used to a new road layout.
The new road layout has been delivered as part of the wider AMIDS South project, which is providing improved links between Paisley town centre and the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland, next to the airport.

Improvements delivered through AMIDS South include:

  • New Grammar Road providing direct access to the school
  • New junction with Renfrew Road and traffic signals
  • Two new pedestrian crossings on Renfrew Road and two on New Grammar Road
  • New footpaths around the school campus
Other improvements delivered by the council ahead of the school opening include:

  • The new Gallowhill Link walking and cycling route linking Gallowhill Road with the new Paisley to Renfrew cycle route which runs behind West College Scotland and beside the school.
  • A series of other improvements designed to improve Renfrew Road as a walking route, including narrower bus shelters, road and pavement resurfacing, and the removal of parking spaces and street furniture.
Although work on the wider AMIDS South project will continue after the school opens, all routes into the campus will be open from the first day of term. The next phase of the project will include a new bridge across the White Cart, due to be completed in 2028. This will provide a direct link between the school and the Shortroods and Mossvale areas.

More information about the AMIDS South project is available on our website.

Before you travel
Whichever way your child travels to school, please take a few minutes to plan the journey before the first day.

If possible, we recommend walking or cycling the route together beforehand, so your child becomes familiar with the new surroundings.

Please allow extra time during the first week while everyone gets used to the new arrangements.
Walking
We recommend pupils walk to school if they can.

A review of the surrounding walking routes has led to a range of improvements, including wider pavements, resurfaced footways, improved crossings and better pedestrian safety measures.

A number of safe walking routes now provide access to the campus. The annotated map above shows the main routes and crossing points.

The new Gallowhill Link is a walking and cycling route beneath Renfrew Road, running from Gallowhill Road to the retail park car park (beside B&M). This connects with the Paisley to Renfrew walking and cycling route which runs behind West College Scotland and beside the school. There is a pedestrian crossing across New Grammar Road at the exit from the cycle route.

If you are approaching via Renfrew Road, please use the new signal-controlled pedestrian crossings to reach New Grammar Road and the school entrance safely.

Once on New Grammar Road, use the two marked pedestrian crossings to enter the campus and follow the footpaths to the pupil entrance.

Please do not cross the road between parked vehicles or outside the designated crossing points.
Cycling
Cyclists can cross Renfrew Road using the Gallowhill link and the get to school via the Paisley-Renfrew cycle route.

Pupils can cross New Grammar Road at the pedestrian crossing where there is easy access to the cycle route.

Secure cycle parking has been provided beside the pupil entrance.

When arriving at school pupils should:
  • slow down when entering the campus
  • be aware of pedestrians
  • dismount if the area is busy
  • lock their bicycle in the cycle storage before entering the building.

There is free home-to-school transport for all pupils living more than two miles away. Parents who applied should already have been contacted direct by SPT with route and pick-up information.

More info on our website.
See home to school transport information
School buses will use their own dedicated turning circle beside the school.

This area has been designed to allow pupils to get on and off safely away from other traffic. Parents and carers must not drive into the bus turning circle.
Public buses
McGill’s have introduced a new 6A service to meet demand for the new school. This will travel along Hawkhead Road and Glasgow Road, stopping on Renfrew Road near the school. This additional service will incorporate morning and afternoon journeys.

A number of existing McGill's bus services already stop on Renfrew Road close to the school, including services 21 and 26.

Many pupils will be able to travel using their National Entitlement Card. Full timetable information is available on the McGill's website or app.
See McGills buses timetables
By car
While we recommend active travel where possible, we know some families will need to travel by car.

Please follow these simple steps:
  • turn into New Grammar Road via Renfrew Road
  • take the first right turn into the campus
  • follow all road signs and staff directions
  • use only the designated drop-off area shown on the map
  • allow your child to leave the vehicle safely before driving away.
Once your child has left the vehicle, they should use the marked footpaths and pedestrian crossings to reach the school entrance.
Renfrew Road and New Grammar Road now have double red lines. This means vehicles must not stop or park on the road at any time, including for drop-off or pick-up.

To keep everyone safe, please remember:
  • do not stop on New Grammar Road or Renfrew Road to drop off or collect pupils
  • do not park on New Grammar Road or Renfrew Road
  • do not use the school bus turning circle unless you are an authorised school bus or taxi
  • do not block entrances, pedestrian crossings or neighbouring roads.
Following these simple rules will help traffic move safely and reduce delays for everyone.
Visitor parking
Visitors should use the visitor car park near the main public entrance.

Accessible parking spaces are provided close to the entrance to the building.
During the first week
We know that everyone will be learning the new layout.

Please follow any instructions from staff while everyone becomes familiar with the campus.
