Dear Valued Customer,
On Monday, August 24, 2026, Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD), your drinking water provider, will install a new 1-inch water pressure reducing valve (PRV) behind your water meter.
To complete this work, water service to your home will be temporarily shut off for about 90 minutes sometime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
During the shutoff, no water will be available from your faucets, showers, toilets, or water-using appliances, such as dishwashers and washing machines.
Please review the information below to learn about what to expect and how to prepare.
Water Shut Off Overview
- Date: Monday, August 24, 2026
- Duration: About 90 minutes
- Time: Sometime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Work Area: Near your water meter
* TVWD will install new PRVs at five homes, including yours. Because the work will be completed at multiple homes, we cannot provide an exact shutoff time. A TVWD staff member will knock on your door before your water is turned off.
What to Expect
During the PRV installation:
- No water will be available from faucets, showers, or toilets.
- Water-using appliances will not be available, including dishwashers and washing machines.
- You will be able to enter and leave your home.
- You may experience short delays entering or leaving your driveway, depending on where your water meter is located.
- Large equipment, such as excavators, may be nearby.
- You may notice noise, dust, and vibrations.
- Mail, deliveries, and garbage service will continue as usual.
How to Prepare for the Water Service Shutoff
Before the Water Is Turned Off
- Fill clean containers with 3 to 5 gallons of tap water. You can use this water for drinking, cooking, and flushing toilets during the shutoff.
- Complete any activities that require water, such as showering or running the dishwasher or washing machine, before your water is turned off.
During the Water Shutoff
- Keep faucets and water-using appliances turned off until your water service is restored.
After Your Water Is Restored
- Turn on a faucet to check that your water service has returned.
- If no water comes out, turn off the faucet, wait 15 minutes, and try again.
- Once water returns, run cold water for about two minutes to flush your plumbing.
About the Project
As part of this project, your home is one of five that will move from a lower water pressure zone to a higher water pressure zone once the project is complete. View the map below showing the affected homes in yellow.
After the water main project is complete in mid-September 2026, water pressure at your meter is expected to increase from about 35–50 pounds per square inch (PSI) to about 90–100 PSI.
Because the new water pressure will be higher, TVWD is installing a new PRV behind your water meter. The PRV will reduce the pressure entering your home's plumbing to a safe level.
The new PRV is covered by a one-year warranty. After the warranty period, the PRV will become part of your private plumbing system, and you will be responsible for its maintenance.
After the project is complete, if you would like higher or lower water pressure inside your home, you can hire a licensed plumber to adjust the PRV.
