Whitemud Drive eastbound Rainbow Valley Bridge reopens to traffic |
August 24, 2026
The eastbound Rainbow Valley Bridge over Whitemud Creek reopened to traffic this past weekend, marking the completion of major bridge work for Stage 2 of the Terwillegar Drive Expansion project and increasing the number of lanes available to drivers.
Crews will continue working on Whitemud Drive and Rainbow Valley Bridge to complete the median barrier, paving and other finishing work. Drivers can expect intermittent lane closures in both directions as work continues.
Three eastbound lanes are now available on Rainbow Valley Bridge. Two westbound lanes will remain open between 122 Street and 142 Street, increasing to three lanes west of 142 Street.
Once the full project is completed this fall, the bridges will provide four lanes of traffic in each direction across the Rainbow Valley area. The widened bridges will increase capacity from three lanes in each direction and support more reliable travel between southwest Edmonton and the rest of the city. Landscaping and site restoration work will continue through 2027.
Stage 2 also includes new active transportation connections. The Rainbow Valley Pedestrian Bridge and 142 Street Pedestrian Bridges opened in July, providing new connections for people walking, cycling and rolling. |
