Welcome Jonathan, to the September edition of The Liberty Pole, Project Appleseed’s monthly newsletter.
September is the month to dry fire (and live fire) for Mantis' #TRAINtheWORLD. Register and the shots you take this month will contribute to Mantis' goal of 10,000,000 shots to unlock $100,000 in grants. Help yourself with the practice, and help them promote shooting activities. Project Appleseed has been selected as a grant recipient. Thank you Mantis!
This month we highlight some events from all over the country, showcase some history, and have some announcements regarding the Appleseed Board of Directors and some instructor promotions.
We do still have two Tippmann Appleseed Edition M4-22 Elite rifles donated by Waco Tactical Fitness available in our 250 for America's 250 Marksmanship Challenge. Get to an Appleseed event and go for that perfect 250 !!!

Dry fire isn't just an Appleseed skill; it's a LIFE skill. Mantis is offering a month long event called #TRAINtheWORLD. The purpose is to build awareness and energy, and grow the community of well-trained firearms shooters. Join Mantis' global 10 million shot event this September. Simply train using any Mantis products and all your shots will be logged automatically. You will also be able to manually enter both live and dry fire sessions.
Every shot contributes a penny towards their mission! Help build a stronger shooting community and unlock up to $100,000 in grants. These grants will provide financial and product support to organizations that work to promote the mission to train more shooters, young and old, all around the world. Project Appleseed has been selected to receive a grant.
By joining this event, you will continue to build your healthy training habits, contribute to stronger firearms responsibility, support Mantis' goal of hitting 10M shots, and make a real impact to grant recipients including Appleseed. Encourage everyone to join! |
August 8-9 Ladyseed in Saratoga Spring, NY from Shoot Boss UpACreek
"The Saraspa Rod and Gun Club has a beautiful range. LadyRimfire and Cannibal outdid themselves getting this Ladyseed together. They canvased the area, spoke to groups, and posted flyers. As a result, we had the first Ladyseed event in over a decade in New York with 8 ladies coming together to learn and have fun"

August 15-16 Appleseed Rifle Clinic in Liberty Center, OH from Shoot Boss Third Degree
"The Sandusky County Sportsmen's Club II facility in Gibsonburg was the location for the latest Project Appleseed rifle clinic in Northwest Ohio. The SCSC II venue is very nicely developed with a series of ranges that can accommodate a variety of types of shooting. A welcome feature of SCSC II is that most of the ranges have covered firing points and extremely high berms throughout"
August 15-16 Pistolseed in Sydney, OH from Shoot Boss Skald
"Saturday, August 15th, greeted us with 11 Patriots ready to learn marksmanship, heritage, and the skills of Pistolseed. Unfortunately, beautiful weather was not on the agenda, as we fought rain and nasty weather throughout both days of the event. Despite the conditions, the shooters stayed on the line, worked hard, and continued to improve" |
We have some exciting leadership changes to announce at the National level.
Senior Instructor Prescott of ID and Master Instructor ItsanSKS of AK have both accepted invitations to join the Board of Directors. The Appleseed BOD provides the guidance and leadership for the administration of the Program.
Senior Instructor Gunjunkie of FL has been promoted to Master Instructor
designated Shoot Boss Ames of IA has been promoted to Senior Instructor
Senior Instructor JustKim of FL, Master Instructor Gunjunkie of FL, and Senior Instructor Roswell of GA have been nominated to the Instructor Standards and Advisory Committee (ISAAC). ISAAC is responsible for instructor development and instructional standards. This includes history, marksmanship, promotions, event safety, and all the things associated with running quality events.

We've had one verified perfect 250 score winner of one of the three rifles available in the "250 for America's 250 Marksmanship Challenge." The next two verified natural 250 scores on the Appleseed Qualification Test (AQT) in 2026 will each win a Tippmann Appleseed Edition M4-22 Elite rifle generously donated by Waco Tactical Fitness.

Rimfire Known
Distance Clinics |
A Rimfire Known Distance (RKD) class is a challenging course of fire at Project Appleseed, applying all the fundamentals that are learned in our classic 25M Rifle Marksmanship Clinics. This fun and challenging class is for rimfire-only rifles.
During this intermediate-level class, you will focus on the skills required to effectively hit targets up to 200 yards using a .22LR. This class covers topics of the Three Challenges of a Rifleman: target detection, range estimation and making the shot.

September History:
The Powder Alarm |
This month AH1Tom takes us back to a precursor to the Battles of Lexington and Concord. He summarizes Governor General Gage's successful raid of the Provincial Powder House in Massachusetts.
The Powder Alarm happened on September 1, 1774, in Massachusetts. No famous battle was fought that day. No declaration was signed. No army won a victory. Yet the Powder Alarm revealed something powerful: ordinary colonists were no longer willing to sit quietly while British authorities tightened control over their lives, their towns, and even their ability to defend themselves.
