City of Edmonton outdoor pools wrap up season this September long weekend

Make one more splash and enjoy the last of summer with City of Edmonton outdoor pools. Borden, Fred Broadstock and Mill Creek Outdoor Pools close for the season on September 8. Wîhkwêntôwin and Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pools are scheduled to remain open until September 12, weather and air quality permitting, before closing for the season on September 13.

Timed entries, which were available in July and August, are no longer offered. Drop-in admission is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once each pool closes for the season, aquatics staff begin shutdown procedures, including inspecting and preparing the facility for winter. All five City outdoor pools were open for the 2026 summer season.  

“Despite this summer’s unpredictable weather and storms, we are glad Edmonton’s outdoor pools continue to be the place to gather and cool off during the hot summer months. Our facilities are community hubs where people can socialize with friends and family or simply relax for the day,” said Shauna Graham, Supervisor, Site Coordination and Operations. “As this summer season draws to a close, our aquatics staff will be hard at work ensuring our outdoor pools are safe and fun for Edmontonians in summer 2027.”

As of September 2, City of Edmonton outdoor pools welcomed 93,023 people during the 2026 season, an increase from 78,707 in 2025.
Attendance by pool was:
  • Borden Natural Swimming Pool: 9,251
  • Fred Broadstock: 25,525
  • Mill Creek: 23,358
  • Wîhkwêntôwin (formerly Oliver): 12,128
  • Queen Elizabeth: 22,761(Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool opened in late June)
