Dear Valued Customer,
On Tuesday, September 8, and Wednesday, September 9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, a contractor working for Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD), your drinking water provider, will pave portions of SW Alton Street between 18295 SW Alton Street and SW 185th Avenue.
Paving will occur only in areas where the street was excavated to install and connect the new water main. The entire street will not be repaved from curb to curb.
This paving work is the final major construction activity for TVWD’s Alton Street Water Main Replacement Project.
Please review the information below to learn what to expect and how to prepare.
Paving Overview
Dates and times:
- Tuesday, September 8, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Wednesday, September 9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sections of SW Alton Street where the new water main was installed.
Paving Process
Paving will include:
- Grinding: Crews will remove the existing pavement where the new water main was installed.
- Paving: Hot asphalt will be placed, spread, and compacted to create a smooth, durable driving surface.
- Sanding: A sand and asphalt seal coat will be applied to help protect the new pavement while it cures.
What to Expect During Paving
Your water service will not be interrupted.
You should expect:
- Temporary access delays to businesses along SW Alton Street as paving progresses through the work area.
- Construction noise, vibration and dust.
- No parking within the active paving area. Vehicles left in the work zone may be towed at the owner's expense.
- Brief traffic delays and changes as crews move through the work area.
- Flaggers and traffic control equipment. Please drive slowly and follow all traffic control signs and directions from flaggers.
- Work schedules that may change due to weather or other conditions.
If you are sensitive to noise, consider using earplugs or a white noise machine. Keeping windows and doors closed can also help reduce noise and dust inside your business.
After Paving
- Please avoid parking on the new asphalt for several days to allow it to harden.
- Some loose sand may remain on the roadway for a short time.
- If you notice issues such as uneven pavement or poor drainage, please contact TVWD.
