Starting the week of September 14, 34 Street between Roper Road and 64 Avenue will close to vehicles and pedestrians until late fall while crews replace the Fulton Creek culvert.
A full closure allows crews to work safely and efficiently, accelerating construction and reducing the overall duration of the road closure. This accelerated schedule will allow the project to be completed in roughly half the time required for partial closures, reducing construction costs for the City and minimizing long-term impacts on the community.
Located near Pylypow Wetlands, the culvert has been in service for nearly 70 years and must be replaced to maintain proper drainage and help prevent flooding in the area.
What to expect:
- 34 Street will be closed between Roper Road and 64 Avenue until late fall.
- Detours will be in place via Roper Road, 50 Street and 76 Avenue, marked by signage throughout the area.
- Businesses along 34 Street will remain accessible from the north and south.
- In Pylypow Wetlands Park, the west shared-use pathway connecting to the 34 Street parking lot will be closed.
- Construction will take place Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with additional weekend and overnight work as required.
During construction, crews will remove the existing culvert and roadway, install a concrete replacement, repave the road, restore landscaping and improve the road shoulder. The new culvert will also accommodate potential road widening in the future.
