 Felipe

Radical Missions has always been a small ministry. Two of us run Clínica Colfax, the sewing program, construction projects, and visiting teams. That keeps communication simple. From the very beginning, though, we have had faithful help on the construction side—Felipe.
Tim met Felipe about 22 years ago while building a church in the mountains outside Patzún. He asked several pastors for the name of the most trusted block layer in the area. Every one of them gave the same answer: Felipe.
Felipe is the son of a pastor who went door to door preaching the Word of God and was sometimes beaten or thrown in jail for it. Kaqchikel is his first language; Spanish is his second. Over the years, Felipe and Tim developed their own language—a mix of Kaqchikel, Spanish, and English. No one else understands what they are saying, which always makes us laugh.
In those 22 years they have built more than 200 buildings: churches, pastors’ homes, clinics, schools, and houses for widows. Everything we do at Radical Missions is a platform to share Christ. Whether we are working in the clinic, hosting a medical team, giving out food, or building a house, our goal is the same—to point people to salvation.
In the villages where we work, most people speak Kaqchikel. That can make conversations about Christ more difficult. Working with Felipe changes that. He spends time with each person and family as we build, helping them understand why we are there. Without Felipe we could not reach many of these families. He is not only an excellent block layer and plumber. He is a gifted preacher, just like his father.
