Dear Friends,
As the ministry year gets into full swing, our attention can quickly turn to everything that needs to get done—the programs to run, volunteers we still need to recruit, events to plan, emails to answer, calendars to manage, and problems to solve.

But this Sunday, St. Paul reminds us of the posture at the heart of Christian ministry:
"Humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but also for those of others.” (Phil 2:3–4, NAB)

Paul then points us to Jesus, who “emptied himself” and “humbled himself" out of love for us.

That is the model for our ministry, too. We are called to make room for the teen, young adult, parent, or colleague in front of us—to listen, to accompany, to be attentive to what they need, and ultimately to help them encounter Christ.

In the busyness of this new ministry year, perhaps our prayer can be simple: Jesus, help me empty myself so that those I serve might encounter more of You.

Please know of our prayers for you and your ministry. As you accompany the young people entrusted to your care, know that our team is here to accompany you, too—whether as a resource, a partner, or simply someone to share a cup of coffee and conversation with along the way.

God Bless,
Andrew Schueller
Director, Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministries

Request Your LBH Spots by September 30!
Parish requests are now open for Love Begins Here 2027! During this initial request window, parishes can request spots for their preferred mission week. This process helps us welcome as many parishes as possible while ensuring each participating parish receives at least some spots.
We will contact parishes the week of October 5 to confirm the number of spots available for their group. Beginning October 12, remaining spots will reopen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Don’t delay—both Middle School Mission Weeks are already nearing capacity! Submit your parish request by September 30 to have the best opportunity to bring your group to LBH this summer.

Hispanic Youth Encuentro - October 10th
Invite your middle and high school youth (ages 13–17) to the annual Hispanic Youth Encuentro on Saturday, October 10, from 9:00 AM–5:00 PM at the Mary Mother of the Church Pastoral Center!

This bilingual gathering brings Hispanic youth from across the
Archdiocese together for a day of faith, fun, music, prayer, conversation, and Mass. It’s an opportunity for young people to build friendships, grow in their faith, and discover how God is calling each of them to greatness.

Parish leaders: Please help spread the word and encourage families to register soon. All youth must be accompanied by registered adult chaperones who meet Archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements. Advance registration is required for both youth and chaperones; walk-in registration will not be available.

Invite Your Young Adults to the Inheritance Conference!

Life in your 20s and 30s can bring big questions about faith, relationships, vocation, career, and where you belong. The Inheritance Conference is an opportunity for young adults to step away, encounter Jesus Christ, and discover more deeply their identity as beloved sons and daughters of God.

We invite you to help the young adults in your parish experience this gathering of Catholics in their 20s and 30s from around the Midwest. Share the conference with your parish, promote it through your communications, and—most importantly—personally invite the young adults you know to attend.

Together, we can help young adults discover that they are not alone, that they have a home in the Church, and that the Father desires to give them an inheritance that is true, good, and beautiful.
