Notice of public hearing for Charter Bylaw 21497

City Council will hold a statutory public hearing on Charter Bylaw 21497 - Non-Residential Assessment and Supplementary Assessment Subclass Charter Bylaw on December 9, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. in Council Chambers, Second Floor, City Hall.

The purpose of Charter Bylaw 21497 is to establish an assessment and tax subclass for derelict non-residential property, going into effect on December 31, 2026.

Petitions
Pursuant to Section 231 of the Municipal Government Act, a citizen may submit a petition for a vote of the electors to determine whether a proposed bylaw should be passed. The process for submitting such a petition is set out in Sections 221 to 226 of the Municipal Government Act. Further information on the petition process can be found at edmonton.ca/Petitions.   

A petition should be filed during business hours to:

If a sufficient petition is not filed by December 7, 2026, City Council may pass the proposed bylaw without further notice.

Complete the Request to Speak form at edmonton.ca/Meetings and the public hearing procedure will be made available to you. Interested speakers are encouraged to register prior to the public hearing date, as speaker order is determined by order of registrations. If you wish to designate someone to speak on your behalf, you must complete the Authorization to Speak on Someone’s Behalf form.
