City of Edmonton wins bid to host 2028 Canadian Urban Forest Conference
October 15, 2026

The City of Edmonton and national partner Tree Canada are pleased to announce that Edmonton has been selected to co-host the 17th Canadian Urban Forest Conference (CUFC) from October 3 to 6, 2028. The conference will showcase Edmonton’s leadership in urban forest resilience and community connectivity.

“The City’s theme for CUFC 2028,
Beyond the Ribbon of Green, centers on the North Saskatchewan River Valley, North America's largest continuous urban parkland at 7,400 hectares, as an outdoor classroom. The theme explores urban expansion and centres human connections, cultural belonging and community stewardship across diverse municipal populations,” said Nicole Fraser, Acting Director, Parks and Urban Forestry.

“Congratulations to the City of Edmonton in its successful bid to host the 17th Canadian Urban Forest Conference,” said Nicole Hurtubise, Chief Executive Officer, Tree Canada. “Tree Canada looks forward to working with the City to explore how the 2028 conference can further strengthen urban forests across Canada, support the professional urban forestry community and highlight Edmonton’s local vision and accomplishments.”

The conference brings together experts from across the country to discuss and learn about innovative strategies, policies, technologies, research and management best practices in urban forestry. It provides an opportunity for municipalities from across Canada to collaborate on the future of urban canopies.
