Dear Valued Customer,
Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD), your drinking water provider, is nearing the end of its fourth week of construction on a water infrastructure improvement project in your neighborhood.
Progress Update
TVWD has installed a new 8-inch ductile iron water main along SW Leslie Street, from SW 74th Avenue west to the cul-de-sac, and along SW 74th Avenue south from SW Leslie Street to SW Lara Street.
See the map below for the sections where water main installation is complete, shown in red.
Next Steps
Crews plan to install new water main beneath the following street sections:
- SW Lara Street, east of SW 74th Avenue
- SW 73rd Avenue, north of SW Lara Street
- SW Leslie Street, east of SW 73rd Avenue
The sequence and timing of work may change as construction progresses due to weather, site conditions, or other factors. Construction is on schedule for completion by November 20, 2026.
Project Overview
TVWD is replacing approximately 2,000 feet of existing 6-inch cast iron water main with new 8-inch ductile iron water main. The project includes sections of SW Leslie Street, SW 73rd Avenue, SW 74th Avenue, and SW Lara Street.
Additional work includes:
- Installing two underground concrete straddle blocks to support the water main, one at SW 74th Avenue and SW Leslie Street and the other at the west end of SW Leslie Street.
- Installing new fire hydrants and relocating existing hydrants as needed.
The existing water mains were installed in the early 1970s. Based on their age, condition, material, and history of leaks, TVWD prioritized these water mains for replacement.
Construction Schedule and What to Expect
Construction is scheduled for Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. No weekend or evening work is planned. The schedule may change due to weather, site conditions, or other factors.
During construction, you may experience:
- Traffic delays and parking restrictions near active work areas.
- Temporary changes to sidewalks or pedestrian routes.
- Construction noise, dust, and minor vibration.
- Construction vehicles, equipment, and materials in the work area.
- Occasional drone use to document construction progress.
- Homes and driveways near the work area will remain accessible throughout construction, although short delays may occur.
- Mail delivery, package deliveries, and garbage collection are expected to continue as usual.
Temporary Water Service Interruptions
Additionally, water service to your home may be temporarily shut off as properties are connected to the new water main, the new main is connected to the existing water system, and the old main is disconnected. Customers affected by planned water service shut offs will receive advance notice.
Roadway Restoration
After the water infrastructure work is complete, a contractor will pave areas disturbed by excavation along SW 74th Avenue, SW 73rd Avenue, SW Leslie Street, and SW Lara Street.
Paving is weather dependent and may take place later in 2026 or in 2027.
