Choose how you submit student work for moderation in BTEC Tech Award Art and Design Practice

20 October 2026
Dear colleague,

From the summer 2027 series, you'll be able to choose how student work is moderated for BTEC Tech Award Art and Design Practice, Component 1: Creative Practice in Art and Design (BAD01).

You can select the approach that works best for your centre and the type of work your students have produced.
Choose the moderation approach that works for your centre

Option 1: in-person visit

Your moderator will visit your centre to review sampled student work in person. This option may be most suitable if student work is difficult to present digitally through Learner Work Transfer.

Your moderator will contact your programme lead to arrange the visit. Moderation visits for the summer 2027 series can take place from 1 April 2027.

Option 2: remote moderation through Learner Work Transfer

You can choose to submit sampled work digitally through Learner Work Transfer for remote moderation. This option may be most suitable if learners have created their work digitally or if you can easily provide it in a digital format.

Before you choose remote moderation

If you're considering remote moderation, make sure the digital evidence you submit will allow the moderator to make secure moderation judgements.

The moderator must be able to clearly see the quality, detail, development, construction and finish of the work. If these features aren't clearly visible in a digital format then you'll have to have an in-person visit.

If you'd like to use Learner Work Transfer for moderation, discuss this with your allocated moderator when they contact you.
Submit your sampled students' work and marks by 15 May 2027

Whichever option you choose, you'll need to submit raw marks on Edexcel Online and submit signed authentication and assessment records for all entered students. Submitting your marks will generate the moderation sample.

If you've chosen an in-person moderation visit, you'll need to submit your marks at least 48 hours before the visit.

If you're using Learner Work Transfer, once you've submitted your marks and generated the sample details, you'll need to upload all sampled work by 15 May 2027.

You don't need to wait until the deadline; you can submit marks as soon as they're ready.
