The Liberty Pole

Shooters!
Center up!
Welcome Shooter, to the December edition of The Liberty Pole, Project Appleseed’s newsletter.  We have a great issue lined up for you this month. As always, "Shooters! Your Preparation Period Begins Now!"
Words from the Founding Fathers
"The advancement and diffusion of knowledge is the only guardian of true liberty."

Benjamin Franklin
Letter to George Thomson, 30 June 1825,
Letters and other Writings of James Madison (1865) vol. 3
December's Event Highlight
In each issue of our newsletter, we highlight one of our events. In this issue, we want to showcase a recent Known Distance Clinic in Myakka City, Florida on November 4-5. Below are some words from the Shoot Boss ScubaSteve.

"By the end of the weekend we had 8 shooters qualify for the KD patch. 4 of them for the first time with 4 requalifying.   Congrats to  Bryan, David, Tim, Cole, Nathan, Paul and Dennis, Kevin. David shot a perfect 50 out of 50 more than once this weekend.  WOW!

If all that was not enough to make you want to come back the Shootboss reminded us about that "Riflemans Quarter mile" We had access to the full 500 yards so we took that standard come up from 400 to 500 and took shots on steel out to 500 yards.  Every shooter hit the target with the exception of one. That shooter had his equipment fail him as the scope seemed to no longer be adjusting...

December's History Article:
"The Boston Tea Party"
Editors Note: This month's article covers the events leading up to the Boston Tea Party and the Tea Party itself. The 250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party will be taking place on Saturday, December 16, 2023

Below is an excerpt from the article and the actual Leaflet that was distributed in advance of the Boston Tea Party. The Founders weren't ones to mince words, that's for sure. Written in 1773, it really gives the reader an idea of the sentiments of the people prior to April 19th 1775. Trouble had been brewing in paradise for quite a while.

Excerpt:

Brethren, and Fellow Citizens! You may depend, that those odious Miscreants and detestable Tools to Ministry and Governor, the TEA CONSIGNEES, (those traitors to their Country, Butchers, who have done, and are doing every Thing to Murder and destroy all that shall stand in the Way of their private Interest,) are determined to come and reside again in the Town of Boston. I therefore give you this early Notice, that you may hold yourselves in Readiness, on the shortest Notice, to give them such a Reception, as such vile Ingrates deserve.

 JOYCE, jun.
(Chairman of the Committee for Tarring and Feathering.)

If any Person should be so hardy as to Tear this down, they
may expect my severest Resentment.               J. jun.

December's Marksmanship Tip
"Dryfire"
In lieu of a marksmanship article this month, we want to remind our shooters about the greatest tip of all. Dryfire! It’s the greatest (and the cheapest) tool a Rifleman possesses. Not only that, it’s a great way to keep those winter blues at bay. Trapped indoors? You know what to do! And remember, perfect practice makes perfect.
