Lots of new series are on their way, so let’s start with a quick roundup.

From the creators of Political Currency and The News Agents will be a new twice weekly podcast hosted by Lily Allen and Miquita Oliver. Miss Me?, made by Persephonica and released on BBC Sounds, will be a twice weekly podcast where they reflect on the news, culture and their own personal lives. The BBC also announced Who Replaced Avril Lavigne?, which explores a daft conspiracy theory that the singer was replaced by a lookalike at the height of her pop stardom.

Elsewhere, Life After Prison by National Prison Radio is returning for its fifth series this week. The series is acclaimed for the way it tackles stigma about serving time, lifts the lid on the reality of prison life. It also provides advice and support for those who are re-adjusting from prison back to civilian life again.

Meanwhile Terribly Famous, who look at the highs and lows of some of the most notable people to have ever been in the public eye, is returning with a new series exploring the incredible life of George Michael. Episodes are out from March 5th.

Electoral Dysfunction
In a year where political podcasts have been popping up all over a place, this new one by Sky News is well worth a look. Hosted by Jess Phillips MP, Sky News Political Editor Beth Rigby and former leader of the Scottish Conservatives Ruth Davidson, the series will reflect on the biggest political stories as we head towards a pivotal General Election.

And why the name ‘electoral dysfunction’? According to Rigby, politics isn’t working for many of us, with approval ratings for leaders in power (and potentially in waiting) not ever lower. This podcast will not only examine what has happened, but what can be done to improve things. Episodes will be out weekly.

Trumped
There have been many podcasts about Trump (obviously), but what makes this new series by BBC Radio Scotland an interesting listen is how it focuses on his golf course in Turnberry up in Scotland and how his takeover has become a nightmare for the small local community.

Not only did Trump want to demolish housing nearby to build his dream golf course, but also great swathes of much loved sand dunes that were deemed to be crucial for the local environment. The podcast explores the David vs Goliath style battle that followed and the

Your Next Podcast
The great thing about Your Next Podcast is it means every week you've got a brand new show ready to listen to without doing any work. That's what the host Lauren Layfield does.

This week it's Who Trolled Amber. What comes to mind when you think of Amber Heard? Liar? Survivor? Narcissist? Millions of us watched the celebrity trial of the century, Depp v Heard, in 2022. Amber Heard lost and Johnny Depp was vindicated. But what if Amber was actually the victim of an organised trolling campaign? What if the online hate against her was manufactured?

The Secret History of Antarctica: Death on the Ice
From the team behind The Secret History of Flight 149, all about a flight that got wrapped up in the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, comes this new series examining the death of a young scientist working at the South Pole back in the year 2000.

The setting is one of the most inhospitable and most remote you can think of for a true crime podcast, an isolated existence where the sun doesn’t rise for months at a time. And on a continent that is essentially owned by no-one, how can you ensure that there’s proper accountability when things go wrong?

Travel Secrets
Hosted by Tanya Rose, this is an insightful new travel series where she interviews guests to share the six travel hacks that they have learnt through their own travels. There’s some great travel stories here to give you inspiration, but also practical advice regardless of where you go.

Two episodes are out so far, one with the actor Mark Strong who talks about the thrill of skiing in Japan and Vogue former Chief Business Officer Vanessa Kingori talking about the importance of visiting places that are related to your own heritage.

“If you are of immigrant heritage (and you could be second, third, fourth, seventh generation), there’s something really magical about going back to that place,” said Kingori. “There’s something magical about knowing there is another place in the world where you could belong or where you would learn something about yourself.”
Thank you as always for reading (and listening), we’ll be back next Sunday with another newsletter.

Before we go, Jack Suddaby behind the critically acclaimed Time & Again is setting up a new podcast space in London, with excellent audio quality and 4K cameras. The space can be hired out for the hour, but is also working on opportunities for those who cannot afford to hire podcast studios for their own productions.
