14 March 2024
Dear Colleague,

On 20 March, you will receive results for learners who sat the BTEC Tech Award externally assessed terminal component in the January series. This is the first time we are issuing results for the external assessment for this qualification, so we are getting in touch to make sure you are aware of the options around claiming certification, resits and the terminal rule.
Action needed

So that we know you have received and understood this email, please complete this one question form by 19 March. You can also indicate here if you do need some extra support to understand the options available to you and your learners.
Claiming certification by submitting a cash-in code

When you release results to learners on the 21 March, you will be able to claim certification for their qualification by submitting a cash-in code on Edexcel Online until the 18 April.

It’s important to know that when you claim certification, this grade will be used by the DfE in their performance tables. You can use our certification infographic to help you decide whether to submit a certification claim.
Understanding the terminal rule

The terminal rules means that if learners choose to resit their external assessment in summer, then they are unable to use their January result towards their certification. If both the January and May sittings of the external assessment are used for certification, the learner is permitted to hold both certificates and use the highest result for their own progression purposes. However, it is the learner’s first certification that will count towards performance tables.

You should also know that if you have submitted a cash-in code for summer 2024, learners will also need to sit their external assessment in the summer series.
Further support

We are hosting a webinar on 18 March where we will take you through how to make certification claims by submitting cash-ins, explain your options after receiving results and answer any questions you may have.

You can also visit our Tech Awards understanding results web page for more detailed FAQs.

If you have any questions, we are here and ready to help. You can contact us through the Pearson support portal using “tech award results” in the description.
