June 2024 update
Welcome to your BTEC Tech Awards June update.

We are now fast approaching the 5 July deadline for making certification claims for BTEC Tech Awards. You’ll find some key information in this update and we’re running customer events throughout June which you can join. We’ll be showing you the new VQ Learner Tracker, which is the new tool you can use to identify where cash-ins are missing and help you to manage your BTEC Tech Award cohort.

In this month's update:
To make a certification claim for BTEC Tech Award you need to submit a cash-in code.

When entering learners for the external assessment in the May/June series of their final year on the programme, whether it be the first sitting or a resit, you should make certification claims at the same time as entering for the external assessment.

If you’ve not submitted a cash-in for summer, you should do this no later than the 5 July to guarantee learners receive their overall result in August. You can still submit cash-ins through Edexcel Online (only) until 5 July. Following 5 July, you will need to contact our customer service team to request any late certification claims.

If you don’t submit a cash-in code, then learners won’t receive an overall qualification result in summer.

You can use the VQ Learner Tracker, a new module within Pearson Progress, to help you identify where learners still need a cash-in submitting ahead of the 5 July. If you’ve not used the VQ Learner Tracker before, check out our quick getting started guide.
The terminal assessment rule requires learners to take the external assessment at the end of their qualification (the series in which the learner certificates). This means that learners must sit internal component assessments either prior to or in the same series as the external assessment to fulfil this terminal rule. If a learner chooses to retake an internal assessment in a series after they sat the terminal external assessment, they will also need to resit the external component to satisfy the terminal rule. Learners are allowed one retake of each internal component, and one resit of the external assessment within the programme.

Once your moderator has reviewed your submitted learner sample, they will provide feedback through a draft moderator report. To ensure you receive your draft moderator report without delay, it’s important that you ensure your exams officer and quality nominee contact details are up to date on Edexcel Online.

All draft moderator reports will be shared by 17 June and will be emailed to your exams officer and quality nominee directly from your moderator. Please note that moderator feedback cannot be guaranteed by this date if your marks or learner work were submitted after the 15 May deadline.

If you haven't received your draft moderator report by 17 June, please first check with your exams officer and quality nominee then, if necessary, contact the moderator directly. You can find their details on Edexcel Online.

You should only contact your moderator about not receiving a draft moderator report after 17 June.

After you have received your draft feedback moderator report

Once you’ve received your draft moderator feedback report, you should ensure this has been shared with any relevant teaching staff. Once reviewed you will have the opportunity to amend your original marks on Edexcel Online until 28 June. If you don’t amend your original marks these will be adjusted for you ahead of results day.

If you’re not happy with the outcome of your moderation, you can apply for a review of moderation as a post-results service in August once the final results and report has been released.

Special consideration applications can be sent to us during the exam series but the deadline for applications is 7 days after the last exam in the series. This makes the deadline the 5 July.

Any applications received after this date will still be reviewed and considered, but this could affect your learners' results being available on results day – so please do aim to get applications in before the deadline.

To apply for special consideration, you'll need to complete JCQ form 10, which must be signed and dated, and send it along with any supporting evidence to the Special Requirements Team by emailing via the Pearson support portal or directly to uk.special.requirements@pearson.com.
While we’ll be sending this directly to you every month, there’s a wealth of support available on our website. Bookmark our BTEC Tech Awards FAQ webpage, where we’ll keep you updated.

As always, we’re here to help you, so if you have any questions, please contact us via the Pearson support portal.
