Dear Friend:
As we hit triple digit temperatures in the West Valley, it’s imperative to take precautions and stay safe. Please hydrate, stay in the shade and if you must be in the sun wear sunscreen and lightweight light colored clothes. Delay laundry and using the dishwasher if you have one to try to limit electricity usage during peak hours. If you or someone you know doesn’t have access to air conditioning, the City has regional resources available throughout the weekend. Many City facilities including pools, libraries, and recreation centers are open and available to all. For more heat relief resources, visit Cool Spots LA and sign up for emergency alerts here. |
Also, it’s very important to take care of your pets and protect them during these sorts of heat episodes. Please limit their exposure outside when the sun is out, never leave them in a car and double check they have enough water.
Thank you and please stay safe, |

In an effort to help find homes for the animals in the overcrowded city shelters, and to save more lives, the Paula Kent Meehan Pet Care Foundation is sponsoring the Biggies and Meow-Meows Adoption Event. Through July 31st, the adoption fees for dogs over 40 lbs. are $51 (that does not include $20 license fee for LA City residents); puppies: $75, cats: $12.50; and kittens: $25.
Pets adopted from LA Animal Services join their new families already spayed or neutered, vaccinated, licensed, and microchipped. Adopters also receive a Petco flyer with discounts to help make their pet adoption a success and a VCA Healthy Start Certificate, which provides up to $250 of follow up veterinary care within the first 14 days of adoption. In addition, canine buddies adopted from LA Animal Services are also eligible for free dog training classes at the Paws for Life K9 Rescue People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills, CA. Councilmember Blumenfield was thrilled to present his annual 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza at Warner Center Park. This event wouldn't have been possible without the efforts of Valley Cultural Foundation and sponsors, especially this year’s title sponsor Supervisor Lindsey Horvath. |
During this latest heatwave, Councilmember Blumenfield joined his Homeless Outreach Team to offer services and water to our unhoused community. Blumenfield thanked his MDT team for being out in the field to assess unsheltered people’s needs and make referrals to needed services. |
