Milwaukee, WI – Milwaukee County Parks is thrilled to announce the start of lifeguard recruiting for the 2025 season! With great pay, incentives, and a flexible array of training sessions — including a new express training session during college winter break — it’s the perfect time to join the Milwaukee County Parks Lifeguard Corps and be part of a growing team that impacts our community each summer. Lifeguard positions start at $17.13 per hour, with unique perks for those who train early.
Additionally, those who pass the test and commit to the 2025 Lifeguard Corps in January and February will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card. More incentive announcements to come.
New in 2025: Express Training Session Geared for College Students, Open to All!
This year, Milwaukee County Parks is offering a one-week "express" training session geared toward college students who are home for winter break, making it easier than ever for students to earn their lifeguard certification.
Session 1: January 6 - January 10 (Mon-Fri, 10:30am-1:00pm, at Pulaski Pool) with the mandatory exam on January 11 at 7:00am.
This condensed training session is designed for strong swimmers who primarily have availability during the day, whether they're home for winter break, retired, job-seekers, work third-shift, etc. This opportunity will extend our in-water training sessions to people that may otherwise be unable to attend, such as if they're away at college for the remainder of the year.
“Our lifeguards play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our community’s pools and aquatic facilities,” said Guy Smith, Executive Director of Milwaukee County Parks. “We are excited to offer incentives and training opportunities to attract dedicated individuals to join our team for the 2025 season.”
Milwaukee County Parks is offering multiple FREE in-water training sessions at two convenient locations:
- Pulaski Pool: 2701 S. 16th St.
- Noyes Pool: 8235 W. Good Hope Road
Training Schedule for the 2025 Season
- SESSION 1 (Express): January 6 - January 10, Pulaski Pool, with exam on January 11
- SESSION 2: February 4 - February 20, Pulaski Pool, with exam on February 22
- SESSION 3: February 25 - March 13, Noyes Pool, with exam on March 15
IMPORTANT: The in-water exam is mandatory for all recruits, and only those who pass will move on to Emergency Medical Responder Training.

Being a lifeguard provides essential skills that support career goals in any field, particularly in leadership, communication, teamwork, public relations, and self-confidence. Lifeguarding also offers a hands-on introduction to medical field work, thanks to extensive First Responder training and real-world experience interacting with the public.
Milwaukee County Parks Lifeguard Corps Successes
Milwaukee County Parks has made remarkable strides in expanding its lifeguard team since the pandemic. From 2022, the lifeguard corps has grown from 77 to 136 lifeguards, a 42% increase. This growth has allowed Milwaukee County Parks to reopen facilities, extend hours, and expand programming, including swim lessons, to serve more visitors each year.
