New appeals process coming soon!

Claimants will soon see an upgraded system for filing and managing appeals.
Starting next month, all claimants (and their legal representatives) can create an appeals account within My FAMLI+ to file, manage and track all FAMLI-related appeals. We want to make it easier for everyone to know what to do when they want to ask for another look at any FAMLI determinations.
My FAMLI+ Appeals is a new system that will allow appeals to be filed directly within My FAMLI+ starting in early December. Stay tuned for new training tools including user guides and how-to videos to walk you through the changes. Keep an eye on your inbox and on our website for those tools when we announce the new system is live.

We’re making it easier for those who need to update their schedules every week

We have another exciting upgrade to announce this month for claimants with weekly schedule reporting requirements:
Workers with approved intermittent and reduced schedule FAMLI claims can now update their weekly work schedules directly in their My FAMLI+ account, rather than calling in or emailing the FAMLI Division updates to their work schedule each week.
Remember, workers with an intermittent or reduced schedule claim must certify their hours away from work each week. That process will stay the same, and now workers with fluctuating schedules will be able to update their work schedule each week when they go to report their hours away from work.
It’s super easy. The upgrade goes live this Friday. Workers with intermittent or reduced schedule claims will get another message once the new feature is live later this week.

Take control of your federal tax decision starting in 2025

Colorado does not tax FAMLI benefits.
The federal government is another story, though. Right now, the IRS has not issued formal guidance on whether FAMLI benefits are subject to federal income tax. (Though they keep promising an answer is coming soon!)
In the meantime, FAMLI claimants are getting a new option when it comes to their federal tax withholding.
Starting in January, claimants will be able to decide whether they’d like the FAMLI Division to withhold federal income tax from their benefits. This will be a simple opt-in or opt-out option, with the rate being set at a flat 10%. Active claims won’t change, though active claimants will have the option to change their tax withholding preferences in their Payments Dashboards within My FAMLI+.
If you decide to have federal taxes withheld, the funds will automatically be withheld from future payments, and FAMLI will remit the withheld amount on your behalf to the IRS. You can change your decision at any point for future payments, but you cannot retroactively collect funds that have previously been withheld.
You’ll be hearing more about this upgrade once we get closer to tax season in 2025!

Participate in DU’s Parental Bonding Leave Research Study

The University of Denver is conducting a research study to understand the impact of paid family and medical leave on the health and well-being of birthing parents and infants.
If you are a birthing parent interested in participating, please fill out this interest form, and the DU team will follow up about next steps to see if you are eligible.
If invited to participate in the study, you will be asked to complete a brief online survey about your recent income history, mood, parenting experiences, and your infant's birth outcomes. Your participation is entirely optional, and your responses will be kept confidential.

Share Your Story

We want to hear your personal stories! Please tell us how FAMLI is helping you through a significant life event. Each month we’ll feature real stories in our newsletter and across our social channels. Like this one from Kallie, who took FAMLI leave to support her infant daughter Quinn:
Kallie smiles as she holds her happy baby daughter Quinn, who wears a brightly decorated protective helmet.
“I was very thankful for the new FAMLI leave program, as it allowed me to take time with my infant, so I could be present for all of her appointments and receive the additional bonding time to help her reach her goals as she overcomes some developmental delays.”

How are we doing?

Your feedback about your FAMLI experience is important to us. Please complete this brief feedback form (2-5 minutes) to help us improve the user experience of My FAMLI+. Your responses will help us improve the online portal for FAMLI claimants and all state residents.
