Dear Friend:
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season! It was truly a joy to see so many friends and community members at my annual holiday gathering and donations drive. The kindness and generosity of West Valley residents are unmatched, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who contributed toys and other items for those in need. Your donations of non-perishable food directly assist families facing food insecurity and the new socks, along with gently used jackets and blankets, provide support for our unsheltered neighbors. Like with previous years, we distributed the many donated toys to local elementary schools, LA Parks programs, and nonprofits including Kids Cancer Connection, CDI, Boys and Girls Club, New Economics for Women, Haven Hills, and Guadalupe Center. |
Special thanks to Los Angeles Rams cheerleaders and Rampage who helped spread holiday cheer and to Safir Mediterranean Cuisine and Johnny Pacific for the wonderful holiday food! Watch a recap of the event here. |
It was a heartwarming event, and I feel incredibly proud to serve this community during the holiday season and throughout the year. |

Supporting Residents on their Journey to Sobriety at Interim Housing Sites |
Over the years, Councilmember Blumenfield has worked to build shelter and provide housing in Council District Three for people experiencing homelessness. While these programs are “low barrier” and open to all, many residents at the interim housing sites have expressed the desire to live in an environment that promotes sobriety. Respecting their lived experience and desire for a healthy environment, Blumenfield has been working with Hope of the Mission to pilot a concept that encourages sobriety and recovery, giving people the choice to participate in a housing program that promotes personal commitment to a substance-free lifestyle.
While there are Federal and State guidelines around "Housing First" policy which prohibits setting conditions to access housing resources, the State and County also support "Contingency Management" programs that encourage folks to stay sober for a prolonged period of time by rewarding participants who have negative drug tests. While this is a new concept to the City, Blumenfield is willing to work outside the current system to provide options to residents at interim housing sites who wish to live in a drug-free environment. This month the Council approved his request to fund an effort to encourage and support residents who desire to live in a substance free environment which he hopes will help these residents succeed. |

CicLAvia in the West Valley |
At Blumenfield’s urging, CicLAvia closed out the year in the West San Fernando Valley. Councilmember Blumenfield thanked CicLAvia and all the community partners who made the event such a success. Thousands of Angelenos and furry friends walked, jogged, cycled, skated, and enjoyed 5 car free miles along Sherman Way in the communities of Canoga Park, Winnetka, and Reseda.
CicLAvia inspires us to think about how we can make it safer and more accessible to bike, skate or walk around the City any day, even when streets aren’t closed down and Blumenfield will continue to make progress in making the West Valley safer, more bike-friendly and pedestrian friendly. |

Earlier this year, Councilmember Blumenfield unveiled the restored art panels on the one-of-a-kind Snoopy Bridge. Since the 1970s, the Snoopy (also called “Peanuts”) Bridge over Wilbur Avenue near Tarzana Elementary School has been a beloved community landmark. After the Snoopy art panels were defaced with graffiti, Blumenfield and his team worked with community members, Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates, and Hattas Studios to refurbish this Valley treasure.
Recently, Blumenfield secured additional funding to restore the remaining panels on the Snoopy Bridge. All the panels now have an anti-graffiti coating both to deter future vandalism and, if it occurs, make it easier to remove. Blumenfield is thrilled that the art panels have been fully restored for future generations to enjoy and is grateful to the community members who brought this to his attention and have been a driving force behind this project, especially Stephanie Brody, Kirk Donovan, and Patty Jo Wolfson. |

Illuminating City Hall in Red in Memory of Victims of Drunk and Drugged Driving |
|
Councilmember Blumenfield, in partnership with the Southern California office of Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) along with the Automobile Club of Southern California, local officials, law enforcement, and drunk and drugged driving victims hosted a press conference followed by a candlelight vigil to kick off the holiday season. The time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day are one of the most dangerous times of the year on our nation’s roadways.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 13,384 traffic fatalities in 2021 were due to alcohol-impaired drivers. This represented 31% of all traffic fatalities in the United States for the year and a 14.2% increase from 2020. In 2021, California alone lost 1,370 lives to drunk driving.
Drug and drunk driving is 100% preventable. Metro public transportation, ride sharing vehicles, taxis, and friends and family are all better choices to save lives. For victim assistance or if you need help after a crash or need counseling, MADD is always there to help. Just call 877.MADD.HELP or go to MADD.org for more information. Save lives by not drinking and driving. |

Join Team Blumenfield for the 2025 Homeless Count |
|
For the last 8 years, Team Blumenfield has participated in the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count in the West Valley and Blumenfield’s district office in Reseda has served as the hub for volunteers. Between Tuesday, January 21st and Thursday, January 23rd thousands of community members across the greater Los Angeles area will be counting their neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. The Count, which is mandated by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is among our most important tools in addressing the homeless crisis as it creates the foundation necessary to build and target solutions. It helps determine the need, measure progress and focus delivery of services to where they’re needed most.
Team Blumenfield continues to help lead this effort and ensure that LAHSA has the most up to date numbers on homelessness in the West Valley. If you are interested in volunteering and joining the count in Reseda, please register here or find a count in your neighborhood here. |
