January 2025
Dear Colleague,

We wish you a happy and successful New Year and hope the festive break gave you the opportunity to re-charge for this term.

If you have any questions about quality assurance, please contact the team via live chat or the Pearson Support Portal. If you're not already a member, join our QN Community where we share the latest information, and you can network with other BTEC centres.

Features this month include:
  • Share the Centre Guide for Standards Verification with programme teams.
  • Share programme control measures with the relevant Lead Internal Verifier.
  • Lead IVs and QNs to audit assessment plans to ensure the required sample will be available in the required time frame.
  • Share the new bitesize videos on standards verification with programme teams.
  • Access and share the BTEC Tech Award moderator reports.
  • Check with your exams officer that the cohort declaration has been completed.
  • Complete the HN section of the AQD, if not yet done.
To prepare for standards verification, the sampling control measures were sent to all Quality Nominees in November. It is important if these have not yet been shared, that these are passed to Lead Internal Verifiers as soon as possible so that they can start preparations for sampling.
It is important that QNs share the Centre Guide to Standards Verification with programme teams so that they can fully understand the process, what documents are required to be sent to the standards verifier, the timelines and size of sample to be prepared.
The allocation of standards verifiers for the Creative Sector have already started, so please look out for those introductory emails.

Allocations for BTEC Level 1 QCF, BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 will commence this month, so we ask that QNs look out for the introductory email to pass to your Lead IVs.

Prior to the introductory email from your SV, you may also receive a notification of the allocation from this address: vqdeployment@pearson.com. You do not need to reply to this as it is automatically generated.
Please share these two videos with your programme teams to aid in their understanding to ensure effective and successful standards verification.

BTEC Standards Verification 2024-2025: this short video aims to provide a brief overview on the purpose and process for BTEC Standards Verification for BTEC QCF Entry and Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications.

BTEC Standards Verification: What if…Questions Answered: this short video that will give answers to some of the most frequently 'what if...' questions that we receive regarding the standards verification process.
Following feedback regarding the accessibility of Tech Award moderator reports, there have been improvements made to how these reports are shared with centres.

The initial moderator reports you’ll receive following the moderation of PSAs completed in December/January, will be available to download directly from Edexcel Online. Our moderators will not be emailing this to centres as they did in previous series.

As soon as your initial moderator report is ready to download, a notification email will be sent to your Exams Manager, Exams Officer and Exams Assistant as well as the Quality Nominee to let them know. They’ll then be able to download this in Edexcel Online and forward to anyone who needs to review this.

You will also notice a more uniform structure used across all subjects, a glossary of terms to make reports easier to understand, and a guidance video that will help you put the feedback into practice.
To access the moderator reports you will need ‘Results’ ticked in your user account profile on

Edexcel Online – your Exams Officer can do this for you.
Please remind your staff, that they can sign up for the BTEC Tech Award newsletters.
A gentle reminder for centres who have a Higher National provision. If not yet completed, please ensure you revisit the Annual Quality Declaration to complete the Level 4-5 Higher National section to support the Annual Programme Monitoring Review (APMR) activity.

The deadline for submitting this section in the 24/25 academic year is 21 February 2025. After submitting the form, please ensure that you save a copy for your records.
This important work means that we will then have a shared view of all your learners who are expecting a qualification result on August results days.
We’re asking QNs to check with your exams officers that the required checks have been made in the VQ Learner Tracker.

The DfE released the outcome of their review of Level 3 qualifications last month; we recommend reading and bookmarking this report – Review of Qualification Reforms at Level 3 in England
