Dear Friend:
As wildfires and strong winds continue to affect various areas of Los Angeles, I hope you and your loved ones are doing well and continue to be safe. On Wednesday night, evacuation orders were sent out to residents when a brush fire broke out by Sepulveda and the 405 freeway. Thanks to the swift actions of LAFD, the fire was contained and the evacuation orders were lifted. As we continue to have more frequent Red Flag Warnings, it is important to remain vigilant and continue to stay prepared.
- Make sure your ‘Go Bag’ is ready with medication, important documents, and other essential items you may need.
- Designate an emergency meeting location outside the hazard area and identify several routes to leave your home in case one or more are blocked.
- Sign up for Emergency Alerts.
My office and I will continue to keep you informed of any updates and community safety measures as new information becomes available. |

Legislative Update–Ensuring the City Takes Swift and Effective Action After Wildfires |
Councilmember Blumenfield is actively engaged in addressing the devastating impacts of the Palisades Fire and related wildfires by introducing key legislation focused on safety, recovery, and community resilience.
One of the policies led by Blumenfield addresses amendments to the State Density Bonus Law. This resolution requests that the legislature amend state law to ensure that new dense developments in or near High Fire Severity Zones do not obstruct critical evacuation routes by requiring development to include consideration and accounting of emergency routes.
Blumenfield supported legislation calling for tenant protections in response to the displacement caused by the fires. This initiative directs the City Attorney to draft an ordinance prohibiting the eviction of unauthorized tenants and their pets who have been forced to leave their homes and take shelter with friends and relatives due to wildfire-related damage. It also seeks an estimate of housing units and household members impacted by the fires and recommendations for new programs or resources to assist residents impacted. This includes an update on the progress of available rental units currently under construction and support for rebuilding housing.
Additionally, Blumenfield introduced legislation calling for a comprehensive evaluation of LADWP’s Wildfire Mitigation Plan and their management and response to infrastructure challenges during a severe fire disaster. The LADWP is required to update the Wildfire Mitigation Plan every three years in collaboration with the LAFD, and Blumenfield seeks answers to what worked, what didn’t, and why.
Through these actions and others, Blumenfield is working to ensure that the City rebuilds sustainably, safely, and better. |

Protect your Home–Create a Fire Defense Plan |
It is critical to protect your home, loved ones, and your community as wildfires become more frequent. Completing a Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) assessment can be a helpful step towards developing an effective fire defense plan as it evaluates your property's vulnerability to wildfires, focusing on both the structure and surrounding landscape. A fire defense plan provides strategies to protect properties from wildfires, including vegetation management, emergency access, and evacuation plans.
