Grizebeck
Grizeback Road Closures

Two weekend closures are planned for the A595 as Westmorland and Furness Council progresses with its £23 million improvement scheme.

The temporary route, scheduled to open in mid-February, will serve all vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians for six months while a new overpass is constructed to carry local traffic over the new A595 and provide access to Grizebeck Village.

On Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd February, and Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th February, a full closure of the A595 at Grizebeck Village is planned to ensure the safety of both site crews and road users during this key milestone for the project. Both closures will run from 7:00 am on Saturday until 5:00 pm on Sunday.

Access for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained throughout. A signed diversion route will be in place for all other road users via the A5092, A590, and A595 through Greenodd, Ulverston, and Askam-in-Furness.

Help us to Light Up Hoad. Hundreds of people will line the zig-zag path up the front of Hoad Hill, from Hoad Lane all the way to the Sir John Barrow Monument. Tickets are free of charge. Small donations to help cover costs would be greatly appreciated. Children with tickets will receive a free LED glow stick.

The organisers are very grateful to Ulverston BID, main sponsor, and MARL, lighting sponsor, whose generosity helps considerably towards the costs of organising and running the event (insurance, licensing, toilet hire, band, LED glow sticks, signage, consumables).

No dogs on the route please, as they may present a tripping hazard for others. Bring a torch, head torch, LED glow stick, etc. No lighters or flames.

Assemble in Ford Park from 6:30pm onwards. Visit the walled garden, buy a hot drink and a cake, and listen to the live music. Entry to the hill from Hoad Lane starts at 7pm. A flat area at the bottom of the hill will be marked with green and white flags for participants who don't want to climb the hill. The path and the monument will be lit up from 8pm.
