The new Reuse Directory makes it easy to find where to donate, borrow, rent and more
February 6, 2025

The City’s Reuse Directory is relaunching to better help residents extend the life of items that might otherwise end up in the landfill. The new directory adds the ability to find where to donate, borrow, rent, consign, repair or refill a variety of items, helping residents save time and money. With 11 different item categories, residents can visit
edmonton.ca/ReuseDirectory to find new ways to reuse.

“The new Reuse Directory better reflects the different ways organizations in Edmonton are supporting waste reduction,” said Kristin Arnot, Reuse Centre Program Lead. “Donating and buying second hand are often the most common examples of reuse, so it’s great to raise residents’ awareness of other ways they can participate in the reuse economy”.

Examples of reuse options reflected in the updated directory include:
  • Rent: Renting tools for work around the house can save space and money while reducing waste.
  • Refill: Cutting out single-use packaging through organizations that sell various products like hair care products, cleaning products and more, in reusable containers.
  • Repair: Giving clothing and electronics a second life with a range of repair services around the city.
  • Borrow: Borrowing sports equipment makes sports more accessible, and gives old equipment new life.

To date, more than 50 local organizations have signed up for the directory. Any businesses and non-profits with services that support reuse can sign up for the directory by contacting reusedirectory@edmonton.ca. The Reuse Directory helps make these organizations more visible to residents who are looking for reuse options

Waste Services plays an essential role in The City Plan by enhancing livability and supporting climate resilience through proven technologies and finding efficient and effective ways to manage waste. In support of a Zero Waste Framework, the 25-year Waste Strategy promotes waste reduction and increased diversion of residential and non-residential waste from landfill.
