So many ways to celebrate Family Day in Edmonton!

Join the Edmonton Arts Council in the heart of downtown for an afternoon of free, family-friendly activities and entertainment.

Date: Monday, February 17
Time: Noon to 4 p.m.
Admission: Free
Locations: Downtown Arts District, including Sir Winston Churchill Square, City Hall, Art Gallery of Alberta, Citadel Theatre, Stanley A. Milner Library and the Royal Alberta Museum.

Sir Winston Churchill Square
Take a spin on the City Hall ice rink on Family Day. Free skate rentals and skate aids are available from noon to 5 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis, weather permitting. Please check the ice rink notifications page before heading out.

City Hall
Dance away the afternoon to the sunny reggae rhythms of Saint and the Full 100 Band from 1 to 1:30 p.m., 2:15 to 3 p.m. and 3:15 to 4 p.m. inside City Hall. Get your blood pumping with a dance fitness class by RegMoFit from 1:45 to 2:15 p.m. and again from 3 to 3:15 p.m. 

Art Gallery of Alberta
Visit the Art Gallery of Alberta between 11 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. for Family Day activities and entertainment, including high-energy performances by Demmi’s Magic Balloon Show (noon to 12:30 p.m.), Jojo’s Magic Circus (1 to 1:30 p.m.) and Spandy Andy (2:30 to 3:15 p.m.). The fun also includes child-friendly games and activities, art, music, juggling, plate spinning and more! Free admission and access to all galleries presented by Station Lands Ltd. Citadel Theatre
Head to the Citadel Theatre for free family fun, including performances by the Alberta Musical Theatre Company, who will delight audience members with their musical adaptation of the classic fairytale Rapunzel. Shows will take place from noon to 1 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. in the Rice Theatre. Enjoy shows by Puddle of Mud Productions from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. and 2 to 2:45 p.m. in the Tucker Amphitheatre. Stay for an Indigenous hoop dancing performance by Lakota Tootoosis from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Catch a screening of The Wizard of Oz at 12:15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. in the Zeidler Theatre. 

Stanley A. Milner Library
Stop in at the Stanley A. Milner Library this Family Day from 1 to 5 p.m. and enjoy a family baking class, a concert featuring Cree Meets Celtic Fiddle (2 to 2:45 p.m.), storytelling, a cool bee house craft and more. Head to the library’s Muttart Theatre to watch a special screening of The Goonies from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Visit the Edmonton Public Library website for full details.

Royal Alberta Museum
Feed your curiosity at the Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) on Family Day and enjoy free admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy towering ancient mammoths, hundreds of live bugs, and the hands-on Children's Gallery. Visit the RAM website for details.

Family Day Skate at Rogers Place
Take part in a Family Day Skate at Rogers Place! Enjoy a one-hour skating session from 3 to 4 p.m., 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. or 6 to 7 p.m. Walk down the players’ tunnel, snap a photo in front of the Oilers locker room door, meet mascots Hunter and Louie, and visit the Oilers Hall of Fame. Muttart Conservatory
Blast into space at the Muttart Conservatory in celebration of Family Day! From noon to 4 p.m., immerse yourself in out-of-this-world crafts, sensory play, airbrush tattoos, a roving magician and more. In the feature pyramid, Luke Jerram's Mars lets you explore every valley, crater, volcano and mountain on the planet's surface. General admission or membership applies.

Edmonton Valley Zoo
Celebrate Family Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Edmonton Valley Zoo! Take part in animal talks and discover how zoo families support animal conservation. General admission applies. The Edmonton Valley Zoo recommends all patrons, including members, purchase and reserve their timed entry for each visit. Reserving in advance guarantees admission and avoids line-ups.

Visit two premier attractions for the price of one
Between February 15 and March 30, Alberta residents can receive two-for-one admission to both the Edmonton Valley Zoo and the Muttart Conservatory. Simply purchase your admission to either facility and show your receipt with a piece of valid Alberta identification to receive free admission to the other facility! Admissions do not have to be used on the same day.

Community Recreation & Leisure Centres
Looking for some family fun close to home? Check out what's happening at your neighbourhood City of Edmonton recreation centre. Most recreation centres will be open on Family Day, including St. Francis Xavier. Eastglen is currently closed for maintenance work. Mill Woods’ wave pool will also be running during public swim times. Visit the City of Edmonton website for facility locations, hours and admission prices.

Reuse Centre
Get ready for a fun-filled Family Day at the Reuse Centre! Enjoy a day of exciting environmentally friendly activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. including a scavenger hunt, colouring contest and a toy swap where you can trade up to five toys! Admission is free, but participants are asked to bring Reuse Centre donations during their visit. See a list of accepted items.

Silver Skate Festival
Family Day is the final day of the 35th annual Silver Skate Festival. Head to the festival’s temporary home in Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park to enjoy Edmonton’s longest-running winter festival, featuring storytelling, cultural displays and demonstrations, a snow sculpture garden, a folk trail, fire sculptures, public skating and much more! Throughout the weekend from 1 to 5 p.m., try out an Ice Bike courtesy of WinterCity Edmonton and the City’s Outdoor Adventure Program, and glide around the ice. Admission is free. Alberta Legislature
Head to the Alberta Legislature Building and the Queen Elizabeth II Building from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Family Day and enjoy free performances, magic shows, juggling, hoop dancing, crafts, storytelling, a Lego® Zone, public tours and more! Visit assembly.ab.ca for more information.

Celebrate Female Hockey Month in Edmonton!
In celebration of Female Hockey Month in Edmonton and as part of the PWHL Takeover Tour at Rogers Place on Sunday, Feb. 16, several events and activities are taking place to engage fans and female hockey participants of all levels. Visit the ICE District website for information.

Visit one of Edmonton’s new winter patios this Family Day
Enjoy your coffee or hot chocolate al fresco all winter long. The WinterCity Edmonton and Vibrant Streets initiatives provide opportunities to increase the vibrancy and livability of city streets, sidewalks and alleyways from downtown and beyond. Visit the WinterCity Edmonton website to find a list of businesses sporting winter patios, including those where you can take your four-legged friends.

Outdoor Rinks, Toboggan Hills and Ski Trails
Free skating and tobogganing is available at City of Edmonton outdoor ice surfaces and toboggan hills. Check current ice conditions and hill conditions before heading out.
Is cross-country skiing your thing? Edmonton’s River Valley is home to a large number of cross-country ski trails. These trails are accessible, open to everyone and regularly groomed to accommodate different skill levels. Visit the City’s cross-country skiing webpage for information and trail conditions.

Getting There
Why not leave the driving to us? Convenient and accessible, Sir Winston Churchill Square and the Downtown Arts District are easily reached by bus and LRT. On Family Day, all bus routes operate using Saturday schedules.
