Standing With Survivors D.A. Bragg sat down with Elizabeth Wagmeister on CNN to discuss the outcome of Harvey Weinstein’s trial and how our office is committed to supporting survivors. “I think one thing I can say unequivocally is that there are no winners here. But I think there are lessons learned, I think there’s accountability, I think there’s support,” said D.A. Bragg.
Securing Justice for Violent Crime We announced the sentencings of Halley Tejada and Kensly Alston to 20 years-to-life in state prison for murdering Nadia Vitels in her Kips Bay apartment. “While I hope this sentencing can provide some closure, it will not bring Ms. Vitels back. My heart is with her loved ones who continue to feel her loss every day,” said D.A. Bragg.
The U.S. Supreme Court agreed with the findings of multiple lower courts and upheld the trial conviction of Pedro Hernandez for the murder of Etan Patz. “This office has remained steadfast in its pursuit of justice for Etan and the Patz family and will continue to stand by this important conviction. I thank the prosecutors in my office, especially our Appellate attorneys, for their dedication and perseverance,” said D.A. Bragg.
Investing in Mental Health We are extremely grateful to Mayor Mamdani and the City Council for their investment in our Neighborhood Navigators program, a critical public safety initiative, which has reached thousands of New Yorkers with deeply entrenched needs. “This program has proven to be an effective and sustainable model for addressing the mental health and substance use crisis, and I thank our Neighborhood Navigators who continue to do the hard work of supporting our most vulnerable residents,” said D.A. Bragg.
Combatting Transit Crime We announced the indictment of Hector Deleon for the unprovoked stabbing of seven individuals in Penn Station. “I am grateful to the good Samaritans who helped end this attack and the Amtrak police who safely apprehended the defendant when he attempted to flee. We will not accept this type of random violence anywhere in Manhattan,” said D.A. Bragg.
Orsen Reyes was sentenced to 12 years in state prison for stomping on a 48-year-old man’s head and slashing him at the 50th Street subway station. “Thanks to the NYPD, our prosecutors and the jury that carefully evaluated the evidence, Reyes has been brought to justice. This significant prison sentence reflects the severity of his conduct, and I hope it provides the victim with a measure of closure,” said D.A. Bragg.

Zeroing in on Fraud D.A. Bragg sat down with Tim McNicholas on CBS News to discuss how our office is cracking down on an increase in crimes involving cryptocurrency. “We are constantly looking at trying to get systemic accountability. Sometimes, we’re stymied because the conduct is based, the servers are based, outside of certainly Manhattan, but in many instances outside the United States,” said D.A. Bragg.
Devon Ragnouth was indicted for allegedly stealing hundreds of checks from a senior living residence on the Upper West Side, where he was employed in the company’s business office. “One of the alleged victims was 92-years of age. Financial loss for older individuals can be absolutely devastating, and we will continue to use every tool available to address and prevent these types of pernicious schemes,” said D.A. Bragg.
We announced the indictment of six defendants and two corporations for conspiring to create and use fabricated companies to defraud commercial lenders of more than $76.4 million. “As alleged, these defendants worked together to orchestrate an elaborate fraud, disguising their theft with layers of falsified paperwork and fabricated companies,” said D.A. Bragg.
Michael Collins was sentenced to 3-9 years in state prison for embezzling nearly $6 million from two companies. “I hope this sentencing sends a message to New York executives who exploit Manhattan businesses – you will be held accountable,” said D.A. Bragg.
